We produce LOVR™, a leather-like, plastic-free material. Natural fibres are combined with plant-based binders, pigments and fillers.
Montgomery Wagner · Darmstadt, Germany · since 2021
- What runs
- We produce LOVR™, a leather-like, plastic-free material. Natural fibres are combined with plant-based binders, pigments and fillers. No petroleum, no PU or PVC coating, no animal hide. LOVR™ is produced at tonne scale and already in products on the market, from watch straps and notebook accessories to furniture surfaces and outdoor benches.
- For how many
- A team of 12 people; around 150 brands and manufacturers testing or using the material, several of them with products already on the market.

- GmbH

- What is broken
- The industrial infrastructure for materials is built around fossil inputs. Machines, finishing processes, supply chains, and price expectations are all calibrated to plastic and animal leather. Any bio-based material has to fit into a system that was not designed for it. At the same time, the label “vegan leather” lets plastic-based products pass as sustainable, which makes it hard for designers to tell the difference and undercuts materials that are genuinely free of plastic. And scaling a new material from lab to industry takes years and capital, while most funding expects software timelines.
- What is needed
- Designers and brands willing to work with a material that behaves differently from genuine leather, partners for joint product and material development, and investors with a long-term perspective: we are currently raising our next round to scale production.
- What can be given
- Five years of experience bringing a plant-based material from lab to industrial production, knowledge about fiber residues as a feedstock, material samples, and an open conversation about what works and what does not.
